What is e-learning?
Mode of learning based on the use of new technologies, which allows access to on-line, interactive and sometimes personalized training, disseminated via the Internet, in order to develop skills, while making the process more independent of time and place.
The term online training, often associated with online learning, corresponds rather to the English e-training or online training. Online learning, which promotes personal or professional development, allows you to progress at your own pace and avoid the constraints of travel, schedule and availability. Unlike traditional distance learning (text-based training and correspondence courses), e-learning (broader sense) focuses specifically on making content available through any type of electronic media.
Two characteristics • E-learning is the possibility of following a distance training program, self-training or accompanied, individually or collectively, • E-learning relies on the Internet and multimedia tools to offer short, progressive training modules; adapted to the needs and levels of the trainees. Training methods The FOAD is a training that mixes several training methods, using ICT (Information and Communication Technology). • Self-training (also known as e-learning): autonomous work on the teaching platform, • Tutoring: methodological, educational and technical support, • Virtual class: teaching by videoconference, • Grouping: collective face-to-face teaching , which allows trainees to meet.
General principles E-learning is part of information and communication technologies for education (ICTE) and enables non-face-to-face training activities to be carried out. This is most often the use of computers or mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, PDAs, etc.) connected to the Internet. E-learning is above all suitable for developing cognitive skills, and, with specific methods, interpersonal skills (conflict management, leadership, interpersonal relations, etc.). E-learning training can: • be self-learning (digital learning courseware); or • be led by a facilitator. He then has a major role in planning activities and facilitating training activities for participants. It uses two groups of communication tools: – asynchronous tools (independent of time), which correspond to the use of emails, discussion forums, wikis and other shared tools: publishing, blogs, webcasting, – synchronous tools (in real time), which correspond to live contact times through instant messaging, surveys, interactive whiteboards or screen sharing, application sharing tools , audio and video conferencing, live webcasting.
What are the strengths of e-learning? E-learning offers many advantages that traditional training does not offer. For example, e-learning: • can be followed asynchronously or synchronously. Traditionally, e-learning is rather asynchronous. This means that there is no predefined time at which learners must take the module. Everyone can follow it whenever they want, at their own pace. The learner can take his time to properly assimilate the concepts. However, synchronous e-learning options are now available, such as web conferencing and chats. The advantage with e-learning is that you have the choice! • has a global reach. By hosting your e-learning modules on the web, people all over the world can access them. No need to plan for high travel costs or organize remote meetings across multiple time zones. • Extends to multiple device types. The online modules can be read on a computer as well as on mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets. This means that e-learning modules can literally be in the hands of the people who need them, at all times. • is available when needed. Today's authoring tools are so easy to use that you can create, publish, and share a course in a matter of hours. You can therefore provide your employees with the training they need when they really need it. • is more efficient. You can create an e-learning module and easily share it with thousands of learners instead of organizing face-to-face training sessions each time the need arises.
• reduces costs. All of the above factors translate into real savings when replacing some face-to-face training with e-learning modules. • helps to ensure the quality and consistency of the content. With an e-learning module, you are sure that all learners will have access to the same content. In traditional training, the content and conditions of the training may vary depending on the trainer, the day, the audience of learners, etc. These differences can affect learning
