The arrival of ChatGPT in the Norwegian web browser has just been formalized by Opera. The OpenAI conversational robot can be used on desktop and mobile to summarize the content of a web page.
It's now official, the Opera web browser will integrate services to generate content using artificial intelligence. If it was not known until now, or when, or how the parent company of the browser, Kunlun Tech, planned to integrate ChatGPT in the Norwegian web browser, Opera confirmed the information and even gave some details. The browser publisher has already revealed in part in what form it intends to exploit the OpenAI conversational robot. Opera is apparently planning to add several AI-powered services to its sidebar and has unveiled one of the first features to come.
And, it must be said, the choice of Opera seems very judicious, so much so that the Norwegian browser could even end up with one of the best features that a web browser can embark.
A one-click summary thanks to ChatGPT
Without giving more details for the time being on the availability of this novelty, Opera presented the future tool boosted with artificial intelligence which will be integrated into the side pane of the browser.
Opera will embed a Shorten button that will, in one click, generate a summary of the content displayed in a Web page. The function, which will take the form of a button integrated into the address bar of the browser, will be Opera's first step into the field of generative artificial intelligence.
Once the function is activated, ChatGPT generates, in the side pane of the browser, a digest of the content, in the form of a bulleted list.
“We see the rise of generative intelligence as the start of a new future in which developers of consumer apps like Opera will be able to build experiences on AI-powered platforms. We're excited to see the rapid deployment of developer programs for solutions like Google Bard, for example, and are beginning to build and deploy new web browsing experiences that not too long ago seemed impossible to achieve,” said Per Wetterdal, Head of Strategic Partnerships and AI Ecosystem.
Opera's announcement comes days after Microsoft officially unveiled the new version of Edge and Bing, its AI-powered web browser and search engine. Opera seems to have big AI ambitions for its browser and the “Shortcut” feature might just be a taste of what it has in store. The firm indeed indicates on its blog “working to improve the browsing experience with new features that will interact with these new capabilities powered by generative AI”.
